CONGRESS PASSES IDEA REAUTHORIZATION BILL

On Friday, November 19, Congress passed legislation to reauthorize the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, otherwise known as IDEA (HR.1350).  The House and Senate voting followed three weeks of deliberations, and reviews of several versions, before the IDEA conference committee agreed upon a final version of the bill on November 17.  the bill is now before the President for his signature.

ASA leaders such as incoming ASA president 7 CEO Lee Grossman played a critical role in having the voice of the autism community heard in the development of this legislation.  ASA's government relations firm, Parry, Romani, DeConcini and Symms (PRDS), was integral in securing opportunities to speak and present to key members of Congress working on this legislaiton.  Recently, former Senator and PRDS partner, Steve Symms, accompanied Grossman to the IDEA conference committee's last public hearing where the bill's language was finalized.

ASA RETAINED PRDS AS GOVERNMENT RELATIONS CONSULTANT

ASA announced the retention of Parry, Romani, DeConcini & Symms (PRDS) as its outside government relations consultant.

As part of our ASA strategic planning for ASA's leadership role in the 21st Century, we have set new, aggressive goals to do more to advance the cause of the autism community within Congress, the Federal government and within the states.  We look to the Parry firm to make a significant contribution to our efforts in these areas, ASA President Rob Beck said.

PRDS brings to the table more than 20 years of proven experience on Capitol Hill.  With former Senators Dennis DeConcini and Steve Symms, PRDS has proven itself capable working with members of all parties and being effective under all administrations, ASA Chairman Lee Grossman said.  We believe that combining ASA's three decades of experience advocating for the autism community with the expertise of PRDS will significantly enhace our ability to secure research funds, programs and services for those affected by autism.
